RMT helpline 0800 376 3706 :: july/august 2026 :: RMTnews 28 L ong-standing member James Cunningham of North Clyde branch received his 50-year membership badge in the union’s Glasgow office. 50 YEARS FOR JAMES PORTSMOUTH 50 P ortsmouth branch member Gary Oram who is employed by Wightlink as a Port operative was presented with a 50-year badge and a letter of commendation from the general secretary. Gary was presented his medal by the RMT national secretary Darren Procter and assistant national secretary Karlson Lingwood with Portsmouth branch secretary Richard Howard. S tores issuer at Aylesbury Train Maintenance Depot Brian Keinch received an RMT decanter and glass set from Chiltern Line branch secretary John Lamb after 22 years as a stalwart member. R MT assistant general secretary John Leach presented Peter Ashley with a long service award on his retirement after 24 years in the union. Peter’s son Sam Ashley, who is now LU Engineering branch secretary, was also on hand. John said that Peter had been active throughout his time in the union and worked in APC at Hainault depot in London. “I have known Peter as a member, activist and very hardworking and dedicated representative for all grades in LU and we will miss him, but luckily Sam has followed in his dad’s footsteps,” he said.
