he first RMT disabled
members’ conference
discussed the work of the TUC
disabled workers' committee
and its manifesto.
RMT sent a full delegation of
15 members to the last TUC
conference and its committee
produces lots of useful guidance
and information for trade
unionists.
Delegates discussed the TUC
Manifesto for Disability
Equality in detail, looking at
which issues were particularly
relevant in our workplaces and
what we want the union to do
to fight for the Manifesto's
demands.
Conference passed six
resolutions on issues such as
disabled workers and
attendance at work policies, the
persecution of disabled workers
and workers with caring
responsbilities for disabled
dependants.
Other issues covered were
mental health and the
workplace, understanding
disability, the need for
accessibility audits and the
impact of austerity on disabled
people.
Delegates called on the
union to campaign against
austerity, support Disabled
People Against Cuts (DPAC), and
challenge myths about 'benefit
scroungers'.
